Frequently Asked Questions
Why does VCS have uniforms?
VCS is proud to be considered a "uniform school"! The wearing of uniforms creates a sense of school pride and unity among students. VCS's philosophy strongly speaks of the inner development and uniqueness of each student, which is easily focused on when students wear uniforms. The primaries (K-4) and middle schoolers (5 and up) have distinct uniforms, which include formal, casual and gym wear for both warm and cooler seasons. Our uniform shop is located on-campus and is open at regular hours throughout the year for the convenience of VCS parents.
Are you a traditional school?
VCS is a Christian school with traditional values. Respect, discipline, and educational basics like phonics are used throughout the school and characterize our staff and students. Our students wear uniforms to bring a sense of school unity and pride and to create a level playing field for students from all walks of life. Students learn in an individual setting (unless group settings are required) and each student is encouraged to put forth their best effort. Is VCS attached to a church or denomination?
VCS is an interdenominational school. Children from several churches representing many denominations attend VCS. At VCS, we realize that we are partners with the home and church. At VCS, we don’t teach doctrine, we teach the Scripture as God’s inspired Word, which allows us to serve Christians of all denominations.Does VCS have a home school program?
Yes! VCS has a very successful home school program with students registered from all over BC. We offer the following options for home schooling families:
Option 1: Support, borrowing of texts and readers, purchase of consumables at cost, CTBS testing if desired. No reporting, no samples to be handed in.
Option 2: Rebate for home schooling materials to a maximum of $125. Christian curriculum is receiptable. No reporting, no samples of work to be handed in.
What is the difference between the teaching at VCS and public school?
We meet the BC Ministry of Education standards while teaching from a Christian world view and using quality curriculum, often from Christian publishers. Children learn to read stories with Biblical and moral standards. Creation is taught in science class and in Bible class. Missions and service have a high visibility and Christmas and Easter programs represent Biblical themes. Students are taught from a Biblical world view.
Are tuition fees tax deductible?
Each year, CCRA (Revenue Canada) requires Christian schools to calculate the amount of instructional time, religious and secular, and then applies a formula based on that ratio so that a portion of the tuition fees are tax deductible.
